EDEN PRAIRIE, MINN., April 28, 2025 – True Friends, a Minnesota nonprofit providing life-changing experiences for children and adults with disabilities, is ready for camp season. Registration is currently underway for overnight camp at Camp Courage in Maple Lake and Camp Friendship in Annandale and – for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic – day camp at Camp Eden Wood in Eden Prairie. True Friends camp programs serve people ages 5-90+ with both physical and developmental disabilities. Financial aid is available.
“The Covid-19 pandemic was difficult for so many, especially the disability community,” said John LeBlanc, President and CEO of True Friends. “We have been ramping up our programs for the past several years but still haven’t reached pre-pandemic levels. We hope to change that this camp season because everyone deserves time to get away from their daily life in the summer.”
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, one in nine Minnesotans have a disability, 11% of the state’s population. To serve this growing population, True Friends offers respite, therapy and adaptive riding, team building events, travel programs and summer camp. In fact, True Friends’ highly trained staff has provided Minnesota camp experiences for more than 50 years, enabling campers to build confidence and create special friendships in a welcoming environment designed to meet their specific needs.
With 5,6 and 10-day sessions, True Friends camps are designed so each camper can choose their activities and determine their own level of participation, including: a multi-sensory environment, gross motor room, basketball, disc golf, arts and crafts, dance parties, hiking, bonfires, a ropes course and more.
“Our campers often say True Friends is their home away from home,” LeBlanc said. “And that is what we strive for every day – creating a place where people of all abilities belong. This year, we hope to include even more campers and make it our best summer ever.”
