Top 10 Activities at Camp

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to spend a week at camp? Campers at all True Friends locations are able to customize their camp experience by choosing which activities are the best fit for them. Our campers and staff shared their top 10 activities at camp they look forward to experiencing year after year:

1. Movin’ and Groovin’

The music room at Camp Friendship is filled with tambourines, maracas, boomwhackers, drums, microphones, and everything campers need to express themselves through song. Staff members share that the beautiful melodies that greet them every time they enter the Program Center always bring a smile to their faces.

2. Hay Ride

A leisurely hay ride is a great way to slow down for the afternoon after a morning of thrilling activities. Campers travel across Camp Friendship, through nearby wooded areas, and around the high ropes course to get a closer look at the plants and wildlife that share their home for the week.

3. Bike Rides/Nature Trails

Campers love to bike along the sidewalk paths between the cabins at Camp Friendship. If biking isn’t your thing, don’t fret! True Friends camps offer hundreds of acres of nature trails to explore with a friend.

4. Arts and Crafts

Tie dye t-shirts, friendship bracelets, and paintings, oh my! The craft center is a favorite spot to spend time catching up with friends and making beautiful creations that remind campers of their week at camp for years to come.

5. Pontoon Rides

If you’re standing at the dock on a sunny afternoon, you can’t miss the singing and giggling coming from campers enjoying their time on our pontoon boats. Boats are fully accessible for campers of all abilities to enjoy a ride across beautiful Clearwater Lake. Fishing is also available for those who prefer to enjoy the water from a distance.

6. Archery

Those who enjoy a challenge love to visit our archery course, where they can build confidence and coordination while practicing their skills individually, or as a team along with the rest of their cabin. Trained staff provide equipment and assistance to ensure all campers are safe as they perfect their shot.

7. Trail Riding

Campers of all ages enjoy an afternoon in the saddle riding through hundreds of acres of beautiful scenic trails. Campers enjoy bonding with more than 13 horses from our Therapy and Adaptive Riding program, including brushing and petting the horses before and after the ride.

8. Tubing

Tubing is a favorite Minnesota summer pastime, and camp is no exception! Campers can choose to glide along the water at a leisurely pace, or experience a more thrilling ride complete with splashes and laughs. Counselors are trained to assist those who use a wheelchair to safely participate as well, so the opportunities for adventure are endless!

9. High Ropes

Camp Courage is home to one of the country’s only fully wheelchair accessible high ropes courses. Campers have the chance to make their way through the ropes course at their own pace, or experience the thrill of the Sky Chair, all while being cheered on by their friends from below. Those at Camp Friendship enjoy our indoor and outdoor climbing walls and zipline.

10. Talent Show

Campers sing, dance, play instruments, tell jokes, and everything in between during Sunday’s talent show. The event, held on the lawn at Camp Friendship right before checkout, is always a crowd favorite. The best part is that each performer has a personal cheering section made up of all the friends they’ve made throughout the week.
