In the first volunteer blog post, readers learned the value of volunteering for True Friends. This week, you’ll learn how to be the best volunteer you can be!

To be a great volunteer anywhere, you should be or want to be…

By donating your time and energy to give back to the community, you’re already demonstrating selflessness. The rest of these qualities are what organizations are looking for in individuals who want to get involved. You’ll be hard pressed to find anyone who enjoys interacting with someone who doesn’t want to be where they are. Make sure you’re committed to your volunteer work and excited to be helping out.

Volunteering with True Friends takes individuals who have, or want to have, that little extra…

Kind                                                    Willing to look silly                                                    Helpful
         Enthusiastic                                             Respectful                                                           Involved
      Adaptable                                                   Creative                                                              FUN!

Working with campers requires having fun and not sweating the small stuff. Camp is fun, crazy and loud, and our volunteers are expected to be a part of, if not leading, it all! These qualities are essential to being the best.

Before you get to camp, take a look at both lists of qualities. Pick one don’t think you have but one you want staff and campers to describe you as by the end of your volunteer experience. Think about what someone with that quality looks like; ask friends and family to describe what someone who is “kind” or “enthusiastic” or “helpful” looks like. When you get to camp – do all of those things! Become a great volunteer.

Apply now to put those excellent qualities of yours to good use!
