Find Passion in Your Career

Are you looking to make a difference this summer? Becoming a part of True Friends’ Summer Staff is more than just a job. Whether it’s assisting in the lunchroom or setting up games to play with your campers, each staff member is dedicated to furthering the True Friends mission through everyday experiences.

According to Forbes, as of 2023, only about 20% of American workers are passionate about their work. At True Friends, our employees can become a part of that 20%. Ben Wymark, an Activities Counselor and Ropes Lead, has worked with True Friends for two years and has been personally impacted by his work at camp. When reflecting on his time working at Camp Friendship, Ben said, “I definitely had a life-changing experience, which made me reflect on myself as a person and it almost, how do I say it? It made me understand and appreciate life a little bit more. Being with the campers, and it just helped me see the beauty of the world as well”.

In each position, our staff can know that the work they do is creating a positive impact on the lives of not only the campers they care for, but also the families and caregivers of the True Friends community. Through their work, they can create a space where individuals with disabilities can experience independence and make memories without the worries of inaccessibility or exclusion. From the facilities workers who keep the paths clear of debris to the kitchen staff who are diligent in meeting the dietary needs of each camper, each position is crucial to the success of our services and a camper’s experiences.

The excellence of our programs is driven by our staff, which is why we ensure each member of our team is not only prepared for their role but also feels supported by the other members of our team. With a variety of tasks in each position, working at True Friends is always an adventure and an opportunity to make a difference in a tight-knit community.

Serving over 15,000 individuals annually, in Minnesota and across the United States, we are looking for individuals as dedicated to inclusion and accessibility as we are. Whether it’s preparing delicious meals, ensuring a comfortable and clean cabin to call home, planning engaging activities or providing quality health care, every True Friends employee contributes to the overall success of the mission of our organization. Become a part of the 20% of American workers who are passionate about their jobs. Make an impact in the disability community and the lives of families and caregivers.

“Honestly, I don’t think there is an ideal counselor that should work here” Ben said, “Absolutely anyone can work here. It doesn’t matter what kind of background you have or where you are from, it’s about how you apply yourself to this camp and how you push yourself forward. And it’s about motivation and just having that mental strength to be able to push yourself throughout the summer. So don’t hesitate if you feel like this is not something for you, it is absolutely for anyone.”
