A Family’s Mission to Give Back

Mark Steen and Bob Harnett are two of the many amazing volunteers who fundraise for True Friends each year. They created The Circle of Friends Golf Tournament—which will host its 19th annual event this summer.

Over the past 18 years, the tournament has raised approximately $2.8 million to support thousands of children and adults with disabilities who utilize True Friends programs! The roots of this tradition began when Gabbi and Barb Harnett’s son Joey had permanent brain damage from a prolonged seizure. While learning how to help their son with his sudden disability, Joey’s sister Molly suffered the same seizure and result. In 2005, Bob Harnett (Joey and Molly’s uncle) and Mark and Debbie Steen teamed up to establish the Circle of Friends fundraiser to raise money to ensure Molly, Joey, and many others are able to attend True Friends summer camp.

The tournament has become a family affair for the Steen family and an annual event for supporters who travel near and far to participate. Comprised of two flights of 18 holes of golf, lunch, games and contests, a silent auction, a quick program, and dinner, the tournament would not be possible without the hard work and support of many volunteers.

We are abundantly grateful for all who are involved in this tournament, which supports the mission of True Friends and helps create life-changing experiences for children and adults with disabilities!
