Respite Weekends – Camp Friendship, Annandale & Camp Eden Wood, Eden PrairieYear Round program
Respite offers campers ages five and up the opportunity to experience camp during a convenient weekend. It’s a great chance for campers to extend their stay during Summer Camp, or for those who cannot commit to an entire summer session.
As a Volunteer, you will spend the weekend with a cabin group engaged in social and experiential learning opportunities. Volunteers assist staff, and provide a positive and fun energy when interacting with campers.

Weekends just got a little more exciting! This program is designed for youth with ADD/ADHD who want to make new friends and build self-confidence. Each weekend, participants will be part of an environment which fosters socialization, positive interactions, and independence through skill-building, volunteering and play. From rock climbing to robotics, science to dance, Weekend Focus provides an opportunity to say, “Hey, I have done that! This is a good way to get you active rather then playing computer casino or free slot machine games on mobile phones”
As a Volunteer, you will assist counseling and program staff in leading weekend activates. The weekend schedule might include a day trip to see a movie or to go bowling, and this will be of no cost to you.
NEW!Spring Break BYOC – Camp Courage, Maple LakeApril 4-6, 2014
Blooming and full of life, come for a spring break weekend at Camp Courage on Cedar Lake! Specifically designed for campers with complex physical disabilities and sensory impairments requiring total or extremely involved care. Campers “Bring Your Own Caregiver” to provide support and care, while participating in traditional camp activities like fishing, crafts, and more. In the evening, there will be all-camp events to socialize and connect with fellow campers.
As a Volunteer – you will support program assistants plan, prepare, lead and evaluate assessable programming ranging from arts and crafts sessions to nature trail adventures.
Family Camp – Camp Courage, Maple LakeSpring, April 4-6 2014
Courage Family Camps are fun, accessible and short getaways that include individuals of all abilities. Our staff facilitates a variety of activities and ensures a comfortable stay. Parents are responsible for supervision of their children. Enjoy networking, sharing stories, and savoring nature. Families have the option of participating in group activities or exploring areas on their own. Each evening features a special group gathering or campfire. Enjoy the autumn beauty with fall colors and crisp cool air. Each day features traditional and seasonal camp activities such as hay rides, pumpkin decorating, and outdoor campfire cooking. You can choose to participate in planned activities, or spend some quiet time relaxing with your family in the peaceful camp environment.

True Friends’ volunteer programs offer young people and adults a unique and well-rounded opportunity. Through volunteering with our core programs, individuals are engaged in activities that lead to personal growth, self-discovery, and leadership development.
Volunteers work directly with staff assisting participants’ involvement in a diverse range of activities such as swimming, arts & crafts, music, nature study, sliding, rock-climbing, and other fun camp based activities. People who share their time with our agency tell us it’s the experience of a lifetime!

True Strides – Camp Courage, Maple Lake Year round program
True Strides is a horsemanship program providing opportunities for individuals of all abilities to experience exceptional equine-assisted activities and therapeutic riding lessons. Each rider participating in mounted therapeutic riding lessons needs three volunteers.
As a Volunteer with horse experience, you will be a horse leader responsible for leading the horse and keeping him/her calm, safe, and confident.
As a Volunteer without horse experience, you will be a side walker. Two side-walkers are needed per horse and are responsible for supporting the rider physically, emotionally, and cognitively.
Mission Trips, Group and Family Volunteering All locations, year round
Mission Trips, Group and Family Volunteers projects are available for all established groups wishing to engage in an experience based learning or team-building service project. Groups can consist of 5 – 80 individuals and range from 2 hour projects to weeklong residential experiences in tandem with our core programming.
