Individual Volunteer Opportunities

For adventure, friendship, growth and great fun, join the nationally camp-based volunteering programs at True Friends. Our volunteer opportunities offer participants a unique and well-rounded experience. Through volunteering with our core programs, participants are engaged in activities leading to personal growth, self-discovery & development.

Volunteers who share their time tell us it’s the experience of a lifetime!

Volunteers work directly with the agency’s staff assisting participants with involvement in a diverse range of activities areas such as swimming, arts & crafts, music, nature study, rock-climbing and other fun camp based activities.

Youth

Summer Volunteering (ages 14 – 17)

This is designed as an entry level program for youth with limited or no experience working with people with disabilities. Participants spend one part of their day working with core programs and the other portion of their day with other volunteers team building, developing leadership skills and learning more about the community we serve. Additional Information

The donation of time, energy and passion empower True Friends to provide this incredible experience at no cost to volunteers. Food and lodging will also be provided at no additional charge. Comprehensive training provided. Volunteer programs meet Service Learning Requirements.

Adults

Summer & Winter Resident Camp (June – August and winter break) 

Volunteers contribute in administration, grounds & maintenance, housekeeping, kitchen & dining hall support and primarily direct group work facilitation and support. Direct group work facilitation and support is available for individuals with all experience levels of working with the disability community. Volunteers are empowered to work directly with staff, assisting participants with involvement in a diverse range of activities such as swimming, arts & crafts, music, nature exploration, rock-climbing and more.

Respite Weekend Volunteering (year-round)

Volunteers spend the weekend with their cabin group engaged in social and experiential learning opportunities. Participants utilize self-directed reflection as a means of continued development and life advancement.

Activity Volunteering (year-round)

This program operates in conjunction with winter camp at Camp Friendship and Camp Courage, and summer camp at all locations. If you have a specific skill-set /interest in working with one of the many areas from arts & crafts, horse riding and boating to rock-wall climbing, fishing or archery, Program Volunteering is the right option for you. Please indicate your desired program ideas in the ‘Additional Comments’ section of the online application.

Short Term Commitment Opportunities for Adults

Some volunteers help for short periods in areas such as:

  • Maintenance – painting, yard work, gardening, buck thorn removal.
  • Office Support – filing, sorting, stuffing and mailing envelopes, developing spreadsheets.
  • Program – organizing supplies, working on flyers, projects and advertising.
  • Housekeeping/Kitchen –dishes and preparing meals, helping clean areas around camp.
